Chisinau City Council fails to elect its leader

The Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) has suspended the proceedings for the election of its president. The decision was taken on Thursday, August 2, after Mihai Ghimpu, the leader of the Liberal Party and the single candidate for CMC president, announced his withdrawal from the race. The decision was preceded by arguments, some of them taking the form of personal attacks from the representatives of different political parties and movements in the Council.
