On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the foundation celebrated on November 14, the Children’s Rights Protection Division of the Chisinau Municipal Council was congratulated by functionaries of municipal institutions. The Division’s acting head Rodica Terehovski has told IPN that among their objectives is to further develop the services for children who remained without parental care.

She noted she is sure that solutions will be identified for children who do not have a shelter and beg so that these are covered by the services provided for the other categories of children who are under the Division’s protection. “We have a lot of ideas and projects and intend to do a lot. I’m sure we will succeed and next year will report more accomplishments,” stated Rodica Terehovschi.

Minister of Labor, Social Protection and Family Stela Grigoras said the municipal Children’s Rights Protection Division laid the bases of all the social services created in the municipality. For the first time in the history of the Republic of Moldova, the Children’s Rights Protection Division in 1998 employed the first social workers, 15 for all the five districts of Chisinau. Owing to strategic leaderism in the municipality and at the Division and to the very powerful commitment on the part of professionals, essential elements of the child protection system were developed step by step.

Head of the Centru Children’s Rights Protection Division Lidia Stefanet stated for IPN that children from all over the country come to beg in the capital city. But their Division cooperates constructively with the law enforcement agencies in identifying the families and reintegrating the children into them. Reeducation centers should be created to help these children to easier integrate into society.

During the 20 years, the municipal Children’s Rights Protection Division developed 19 social services for children in situations of risk, such as placement centers, professional parent assistance services, a day service for children younger than three, two day services for children with disabilities and community homes. In 2018, the Division will inaugurate the Children’s Social Assistance Home service.
