Cat owners in Chisinau have the opportunity to sterilize their pets free of charge as part of a campaign launched by the municipal animal supervision agency. Those interested need to fill out a registration form.
The agency says that sterilization is “first of all, an act of humaneness and an effective method of controlling the number of pets, preventing unwanted reproduction and reducing the number of homeless animals”.
Sterilization can also prevent health issues in pets. A sterilized cat will not seek to run away from home, thus reducing the chances of it being lost. After sterilization, cats will behave more calmly and friendly.
