Chisinau can become a city of culture, history and tourism, said the Party of Socialists’ candidate for mayor general Ion Ceban. He promised that immediately after he takes up his duties, if he is elected mayor, he will order to carry out an extensive assessment of the state of monuments and will initiate the creation of a new register of monuments and the designing of concrete plans for restoring each monument, IPN reports.
“It is well known that a community that does not lay emphasis on culture and history and ignores the past cannot have present and future. Regrettably, until now those who managed the Chisinau City Hall showed a defying, in parts criminal attitude to the rich culture and history of our city,” Ion Ceban stated in a news conference given in front of the National Philharmonic “Sergey Lunkevich”.
According to Ceban, the historical monuments in Chisinau are in a deplorable situation. The way in which the Trade Unions’ Palace of Culture was conceded is unacceptable. The candidate promised he will yet return to this issue.
The aspirant also pledged to create, together with his team, tourist, cultural and recreational areas, to organize thematic festivals and to actively promote the brand “Chisinau” at regional and international levels. He will also ensure support for international song and dance contests, for the restoration of historical streets and creation of a Municipal Handicrafts Center.
