Chisinau buses might be equipped with electronic payment systems

Buses outfitted with pay gate systems may run in Chisinau in several months. A bus with turnstile was presented in front of the Chisinau City Hall on January 10. The head of the Public Transport and Communications Division Veaceslav Tarna has told Info-Prim Neo that it was only a model, but the bus will be tested later. Veaceslav Tarna also said that the electronic payment system allows monitoring the passenger transportation services more efficiently. The presentation of the given system forms part of the strategy for improving the ticket collection system. The institution of such a system was also recommended by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. Entering the bus, the passenger pays for the trip, while the conductor operates the turnstile with the help of a card and allows the passenger to go through. The system records the number of passengers and prevents cases when the passenger does not pay for the trip or the conductor takes the money, but does not give a ticket.
