Chisinau beaches to have new sand

The Municipal Council decided Friday to disburse 1.29 million lei to ready the leisure areas in the city. Eliferie Haruta, the manager of the municipal enterprise responsible for green spaces “Spatii Verzi”, has told Info-Prim Neo the works will end by mid-June. They will begin after a tender will select the company to cut the reeds along lakes' banks and to bring sand on beaches. The City Hall plans to buy 2,500 tonnes of sand . Some councilors were dissatisfied the City Hall allocated money for tidying up the beaches, while the water in lakes remains dirty and dangerous for health. “It's not our competence,” Haruta responded. The Communist Valerii Pavlov has said the draft decision needs to be reviewed, because the lakes must be cleaned first. The decision has been been adopted however, as the councilors invited officials from the Preventive Medicine Center to report on the lake water quality at the next sitting.
