The Chisinau City Hall will ask the local councilors to examine a contract with an Italian firm for building and putting in commission a waste recycling plant, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to Diana Gurschi, the head of the City Hall’s Legal Division, the contract dates from 2006. It was signed then by the acting mayor Vasile Ursu and STR Enginerien on a temporary basis. The Italian investor offered 190 million euros for building the plant. The works were to be completed in three years of the signing of the contract. The company planned to recoup its investments within eight years. The plant was to be constructed on Uzinelor Street in Chisinau, not far from the water treatment station, on an area of 10 hectares. The contract was then modified owing to the amendments introduced to the legislation. A special commission has already examined the contract, Gurschi said. The Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca considers that the waste recycling plant is a modern, efficient and environment-friendly technical solution to the garbage-related problems faced by the municipality. It will enable to recycle the waste from the Tantareni dump and the garbage that will be produced in the future. Besides, there will be created new workplaces. The volume of waste collected in the municipality of Chisinau has doubled during the last few years, from one to two cubic meters of waste per capita, especially due to the large quantities of bottles, plastic packing and food waste. Over 3,500 cubic meters of garbage are taken out of the city every day.
