Chisinau authorities inspired by example of “Come on, Moldova” team

The Chisinau City Hall will stage an extensive cleanup campaign after Low Sunday, which will involve employees of municipal companies and volunteers. During the cleanup event organized by “Come on, Moldova” Project on April 16, Mayor General of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca said the cleaning works will continue in inaccessible places, Info-Prim Neo reports. “When it is dry, we will repeat the cleanup campaign in the municipality of Chisinau. We are now cleaning mainly the alleys and parks, but there are also other places where there is much more garbage. In several weeks, we will deal with them. That campaign will be obligatory for the municipal officials,” said Dorin Chirtoaca. The mayor said that though the municipal police continue to penalize the persons who take the waste to unauthorized places, the effect is minimal. “The number of garbage bins in other cities is lower than in Chisinau, but those cities are cleaner as the people there are civilized and do not drop litter,” said Dorin Chirtoaca. Antonita Fonari, executive director of the NGO “Young and Free”, who got involved in the cleanup campaign in Valea Morilor Park, said the people should be educated to keep the places clean when they are young and thus she brought her children with her. “Unfortunately, many people think only about themselves and clean up only the areas around their houses. This is not right,” she said. The team of “Come on, Moldova” Project and volunteers from 27 districts plan to collect about 10,000 tonnes of garbage during the National Cleaning Day today, April 16.
