Moldova's Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Eugen Carpov and the political representative of Tiraspol, Vladimir Yastrebchak, had a meeting on Tuesday, July 12. According to a press statement of the Reintegration Bureau, they discussed about restoring the freight rail traffic via Transnistria and reconnecting fixed telephony lines between the two sides of the Nistru River, Info-Prim Neo reports. The meeting involved experts in various fields, from both Chisinau and Tiraspol, who exchanged opinions about improving the efficiency of the sectoral workgroups. The participants expressed their availability to identify current problems and to work on ways for solving them in order to improve the quality of life for people on both sides of the Nistru. Other topics discussed during the meeting included the finalization of the draft Regulation of workgroups activity, the storage and use of radiological elements from Transnistria, the problem of schools on the left bank of Nistru with teaching in Latin writing, starting the activity of workgroups on issues related to civil status papers, and the Nistru Euroregion project. The participants agreed to continue their work within sector-based common groups over the next weeks. The meeting on Tuesday, July 12, was organized as a result of an informal meeting between Prime Minister Vlad Filat and the Transnistrian leader Igor Smirnov during the Moldovan Football Supercup, which took place on the Sheriff stadium in Tiraspol. Vladimir Yastrebchak told the Novii Region agency that such talks during football matches were obviously important, but couldn’t replace the activity of workgroups. “The meeting we’ve had with representatives of the Moldovan side should’ve taken place long before the agreement reached by Vladimir Filat and Igor Smirnov at a football game”, added Yastrebchak.
