A car insurance mechanism applicable to both sides of the Nistru River will not be implemented starting with May 10 because the document agreed by Prime Minister Chiril Gaburici and the Transnistrian leader Yevgheny Shevchuk wasn’t signed by the insurance companies from the right side of the Nistru. The announcement was made by the chief negotiators of Chisinau and Tiraspol Victor Osipov and Nina Shtanski, who met in Chisinau on May 8, IPN reports.

Victor Osipov said the document was agreed and initialed, but wasn’t signed by the insurance companies from the right side of the Nistru because there are many such companies here. It was easier in the case of the left side as there is only one company authorized to issue such insurance there.

Nina Shtanski said it’s not known how they will act further as the moratorium imposed on the obligation for the vehicle owners from the right side of the river to purchase Transnistrian car insurance expires on May 10.

The two officials also discussed the necessity of licensing the Transnistrian companies by Chisinau. Tiraspol describes the situation as an economic war. Victor Osipov said the companies operating on the left side of the Nistrului must meet particular standards to be licensed. The question was raised given that the period of validity of the license of the Transnistrian company Kvint expires at the end of May.
