Special equipment has been installed at the entrance to the Chisinau International Airport to secure access to its so-called “sterile area”. This comes in addition to standard patrol, the Border Police said. The mechanism will become fully operational starting tomorrow at noon.
The Border Police urge travelers to arrive early to allow time for all airport procedures.
Inside the Airport, passenger flows will be more clearly delimitated for arrival and departure. In addition, the parking space in front of the airport will be reorganized to streamline car traffic, and measures will be introduced to limit access to the Airport for non-travelers.
“Together with other governmental agencies, we will continue to gradually put additional measures in place to protect passengers and airport staff”, the Border Police said in a press release.
The Airport is among the sites that have seen a sharp rise in hoax bomb threats lately. To discourage it, the Ministry of Interior has suggested increasing fines and prison terms for such offenses.
