The financial allocations for each child in kindergartens will be increased from 12,000 to 14,000 lei annually. The additional sources will help managers to supply the kindergartens with the necessary hygiene products, including toilet paper, Viorica Negrei, deputy head of the General Division of Education, Youth and Sport, stated in the ordinary meeting of officials of Chisinau services and divisions. The subject was raised amid a protest mounted by parents, IPN reports.
According to the official, the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research worked out a minimal standard on the provision of kindergartens with hygiene products. The relevant regulations were approved by a number of state institutions and the Ministry of Finance is to also examine and endorse them. When this is done, the school and kindergarten directors will have to respect those standards that envision the diversification of the list with mandatory hygiene products as of 2018.
Health Division head Mihai Moldovanu said he is skeptical that the announced rise in allocations per child will change the situation at a time when the prices go up. “When we inspected preschool institutions, we saw the state of toilets. The parents are right when they say that no hygiene products can be found there and, in general, these sanitary facilities are not even repaired,” he stated.
Acting mayor of Chisinau Nistor Grozavu said that until the minimum relevant standards are finalized nationwide, a set of minimal norms should be worked out for the municipality of Chisinau and presented to the Municipal Council for consideration. When the Ministry of Education’s standards are ready, these should be correlated.
A group of parents on October 23 protested in Chisinau, demanding that decent hygienic conditions are ensured for children in kindergartens. According to Ala Revenko, head of the association “Solidary Parents”, the kindergartens in Chisinau are supplied neither with liquid soap nor with toilet paper. The protest organizers estimated that a sum of 7 million lei is needed to solve the given problem in the kindergartens of Chisinau.
