The authorities of Chisinau could decrease the number of day camps opened in schools and other education institutions in the capital city in summer. They argue that these camps affect the holding of the graduation exams and that the Chisinau Municipal Council this year significantly reduced the amount allocated for the purpose, from 32 million lei to 17 million lei.
“Day summer camps will be opened only in the schools where there are a large number of children from socially deprived families,” the head of the General Division of Education, Youth and Sport Tatiana Nagnibeda-Tverdohleb told Info-Prim Neo. “The other students will have the possibility of spending the summer vacation in camps outside the city.”
The local authorities manage four summer camps. Three of them are in Vadul lui Voda – Ciresarii, Alunelul, and Neptun, while one is in Danceni – Poienita Vesela. The other camps are rented. “The Chisinau administration will choose the camps that provide the best conditions, have swimming pools, sports grounds and other facilities,” Tatiana Nagnibeda-Tverdohleb said.
One million lei of the allocated sum will go to repair the four summer camps.
The Government has not yet decided how much the tickets to summer camps will cost this year. Last year, one ticket cost about 1,400 lei. 20% of the price was paid by the parents, while the rest by the authorities of Chisinau. For a day camp, a ticket costs 500 lei, but the parents paid only 100 lei. 25% of the total number of tickets were provided free of charge to orphans and children from socially underprivileged families.
