The central authorities could involve private economic entities in rubbish recycling. Chisinau Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca says that a number of Chisinau-based and foreign firms expressed readiness to set up rubbish bins in the city and to recycle the refuse. According to the mayor, a firm intends to introduce a system for recycling plastic bottles and another one wants to fix rubbish bins in exchange for placing ads on them. At the recent meeting of the City Hall, Chirtoaca raised again the issue of insufficient sanitation in the city. He ascertained that in some zones there is more rubbish on the ground than in litter bins. The mayor gave the following instructions to the sanitation officials: to increase the number of bins on the rubbish platforms or to take the rubbish away more often. There are 468 rubbish platforms and 8,800 bins in the municipality at present. Petru Gontea, interim head of the General Housing Division, said that the townspeople throw the construction waste in bins. As a result, they are so heavy that the garbage men have to overturn them and load the waste in the trucks with the hands. Gontea said that in such a way the work is done slower. The mayor asked the district heads to identify such cases and ensure the efficient sanitation in all the districts of the city. In compliance with the existent regulations, the construction waste must be transported to the Brick Factory. To do this, the residents of the capital must appeal for themselves to the Auto-Sanitation Division. Vladimir Garaba, chairman of the Chisinau Ecologist Movement, announced that he proposed a plan of measures regarding the efficient sanitation in the city and is ready to actively cooperate with the local administration in solving such kinds of problems. He pledged to formulate proposals designed to make the transport owners in the municipality observe the pollution norms.
