Communist councilor in the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) Vasili Chirtoca considers the formation of a majority alliance in the Council wasn’t necessary, while Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca is convinced that the absence of a coalition in the CMC would have blocked the process of administering the capital city. Contradictory debates on the issue took place within the talk show “Reply” on Prime TV channel, IPN reports.

“For me, the formation of a majority alliance in the CMC means nothing. I see no meaning in this act. The municipal councilors must not deal with political issues. They must solve the problems of the capital city” said the Communist councilor.

Chirtoca also said that he will vote for all the decisions that he will consider necessary for the development of Chisinau. “I don’t think I’m in the opposition. I’m not against the Europeanization of Chisinau. But we can also learn from the administration experience of other cities, such as Saint Petersburg,” he stated.

Dorin Chirtoaca noted that forming a majority alliance in the CMC was an absolute necessity. “In time, the absence of an alliance often blocked the decision-making process. The pro-European coalition wasn’t formed based on party criteria. The agreement to form the alliance was signed by all the member councilors and each of them assumed responsibility,” he said.

Last week, twenty-six councilors of the Liberal Party, the Electrical Bloc “European People’s Party of Moldova – Iurie Leanca”, the Liberal Democratic Party and the Democratic Party signed an agreement to form a pro-European majority alliance in the CMC that consists of 51 councilors.
