“Very interesting. The program of debates for the whole week was made public several days ago. Different radio stations and TV channels daily stage debates and these are often ignored or the invitation to them is rejected. Own ‘debates’ are invented out of the blue... In fact, these are electoral events. We do not take part in the electoral events of the Socialists,” the Liberal Party’s candidate for mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca said, commenting on the invitation to debates made Tuesday by his opponent Zinaida Grechenyi, of the Party of Socialists, IPN reports.
In a message published on a social networking site, Dorin Chirtoaca says that he has reasons not to take part in a debate staged by the Socialists, who, for their part, declined his invitation last week. “I quote what Zinaida Grecheanyi said: “Chirtoaca should not compile my agenda. I didn’t hire him as secretary”. Last week, the media outlets hadn’t yet planned debates and we could issue reciprocal invitations. Now we will answer in the same way: Does Zinaida Grecian want to be my secretary to set my agenda?”, he said.
The candidate also said that debates on a number of TV channels will be held the coming days and he called on Zinaida Grecheanyi to take part in them.
In a news conference on June 23, Zinaida Grecheanyi invited Dorin Chirtoaca to public debates in the Great National Assembly Square. Last week, Dorin Chirtoaca invited Zinaidei Grecheanyi to an electoral debate on the public transport in the municipality of Chisinau, but the invitation was turned down. The two will compete in the second round of the mayoral elections on June 28.
