There is cemetery-like stability in Moldova now and this suits some of the mafiots who came to power by swindle. This stability is promoted as a value before the Europeans so as to persuade them that the current government is legitimate. But this is not the stability wanted by the honest people, Chiril Motpan, deputy chairman of the Political Party “Platform Dignity and Truth”, said in the public debate “Specific features of presidential elections 2016: vision of parliamentary parties” of the series “What kind of President is society looking for? What society does the President need?”, held by IPN News Agency.

“When we speak about stability, we must see if this suits the people. But I’m sure that this announced stability does not reach the people,” stated Chiril Motpan.

He said the restoration of the US$1 billion stolen by those who are in power was one of the demands of the Civic Platform “Dignity and Truth” and then of the Political Party “Platform Dignity and Truth”. “The theft helped the population realize the country’s problems. Afterward the dissatisfaction tuned into street protests that involved a number of social segments as the whole society was massively affected by this theft. We must concentrate and choose a worthy President, who will investigate this case. The President has enough instruments to discover the truth. The theft of the billion not only stigmatized the political class, but also spoiled Moldova’s image abroad,” said the politician.

As to the geopolitical vote of the population, Chiril Moţpan said this vote became the weapon of those who are in power. “If they ask for money from the Europeans, they are threatened with Russian tanks and vice versa. This vote will exist until we have dishonest politicians who safeguard their own interests. When we staged dozens of protests, we said that the people took to the street and we didn’t divide them and consolidated society. It’s now probably time to unite and bring about beneficial changes and then discuss one courser or another. The discussions about the geopolitical vote suit only the ruling politicians. We always wanted to unite, not divide society,” he stated.

Chiril Motpan added that the idea of combining forces against those who caused disorder should unite the country. “We have a lot of candidates for President. Some of these play the game of the power. In a democratic society, elections with many candidates are beneficial, not yet in the case of Moldova, where almost each second candidate represents the government. There is a danger that the people will not go to vote. In our meetings with the people, we see interested persons who want to become involved and ensure changes. We count a lot on these voters. If we overcome the personal ambitions, we will have a future,” he said.

The September 22 public debate is the 61st installment of the series of debates “Developing political culture by public debates” that are organized by IPN with the assistance of the German foundation “Hanns Seidel”.
