The Chairman of the Parliamentary Commission on National Security, Defense and Public Order, Chiril Moţpan, claims that, after he made public the information that Vlad Plahotniuc has several identities in the Republic of Moldova, harsh ad hominem attacks followed with the intention to denigrate him.
At a press briefing on Tuesday, Chiril Moţpan has said that the same thing happened after public disclosures regarding the interception of calls and surveillance of journalists, civic activists and opinion leaders. "For example, the former heads of the Ministry of Internal Affairs / MAI became really disturbed. The picture of the civic activist Sergiu Tofilat on the list of the surveilled persons, taken, it seems, during the 2019 election campaign, made some people question the credibility of this information. I also asked about the reasons as to why things appear this way”, said the deputy.
According to Chiril Moţpan, the initial assumption of those who questioned these documents was that the surveillance of protesters, journalists, civic activists occurred only between 2015-2016, being carried out by MAI subdivisions. But other state structures could have carried out such activities during the years 2017-2019, says the MP. "It seems that the most plausible author in this case would be the Information and Security Service / SIS, namely its Constitutional Regime Protection Directorate, which is empowered to carry out such activities, with employees having on their radar screen parties, the civil society and journalists. What officially interests the employees of this directorate are the risks and threats to the security of the constitutional regime and this makes the situation credible, because only SIS has interception equipment. MAI, CNA, the Border Police and other institutions request the support of SIS to initiate such actions”, mentioned Chiril Moțpan.
The MP says he does not intend to fight with MAI or SIS employees, but is just trying to defend the country's interests and human rights. The only way to safeguard citizens' democratic rights and freedoms is to ensure that these institutions do not play "politically motivated surveillance and interception games", stressed the chairman of the Parliamentary Commission on national security, defense and public order.
As for the information that the former Democratic leader had left the country in June this year, because there was a danger to his life and security on the part of mercenaries from the so-called Wagner detachment, Chiril Moţpan specified that it had been impossible to verify these data. The MP does not rule out that the information is also part of a misinformation strategy devised by Vladimir Plahotniuc and his supporters, which C. Motpan describes as a "failed attempt to identify non-existent circumstances in order to benefit from the provisions of international law, invoking the alleged danger to his life as grounds for rejecting his extradition request”.
"In fact, in Moldova he never ran any danger to his physical integrity, on the contrary he was and continues to be a constant threat to Moldova and its citizens," said Chiril Moţpan.
