Before holding talks with the former colleagues of the Alliance for European Integration, the Liberal Democrat Party wants to see if the Democratic Party already has confidence in the Lib-Dems after voting in favor of the no-confidence motion against the Government led by the Liberal-Democrat Valeriu Strelet. The statement was made by the Liberal-Democratic MP Chiril Lucinschi in the public debate “Chances of AEI 4 and of the Republic of Moldova” that was held by IPN in concert with Radio Moldova.

Chiril Lucinschi said the October 29 vote of the Democrats in favor of the motion wasn’t a surprise and the Lib-Dems expected something like this, especially after the Democrats invited ex-Premier Valeriu Strelet to tender his resignation. The PLDM was ready to discuss when the proposal to extend the alliance by coopting the unaffiliated MPs of the Leanca group was put forward. The Democrats said yet this will be possible only after the Premier resigns.

As to the Democrats’ invitation to sit again at the negotiating table, Chiril Lucinschi said they wonder if the Democrats already have confidence in the PLDM. However, to form a majority they need mutual trust and this trust can be proven by actions, while the PLDM already suggested a plan of action in this respect.

Chiril Lucinschi stated that the Democrats look like aliens when they assert that justice is free and will clarify the bank frauds. Polls show only 7% of the people have confidence in justice. The Democrats should stop insisting that the National Anticorruption Center and the Prosecutor General’s Office work freely and independently because everyone knows that the executive posts at these institutions are distributed according to political criteria.

The MP noted that now the Lib-Dems understood that the post distribution methods used earlier no longer work and want reforms. The PLDM demands that the NAC director Viorel Chetraru and Prosecutor General Corneliu Gurin should be dismissed because not they conduct the investigation into the bank frauds, but employees of the two institutions, while the two didn’t do the required reforms. The authorities should take measures for people’s confidence in justice to be at the level of at least 80%. The Government was dismissed on allegations of corruption and not for other reasons so that Valeriu Strelet could no longer hold the post of Premier and because ‘somebody wants more power’.

The public debate “Chances of AEI 4 and of the Republic of Moldova” is the 43rd installment of the series of debates “Developing political culture by public debates”. The project is supported by the German foundation “Hanns Seidel”.
