The project “Good Roads for Moldova” initiated by the government will be completed at this yearend, but should be continued. Minister of Economy and Infrastructure Kiril Gaburici said the extension is needed as the repaired kilometers of roads are insufficient and also because such projects are irreversible. The issue was developed in the talk show “Reply” on Prime TV channel, IPN reports.

According to the minister, road repair works are carried out in 70 communities. “The works in 22 communities were already finished. The people already benefit from these roads,” stated Kiril Gaburici, noting that the deadline for completing the works in the 1,200 communities is this yearend.

Mayor of Radeni village of Straseni district Petru Rabdau said the works in their commune are over. According to him, the project “Good Roads for Moldova” initiated by the Government has the fastest and most direct impact on the citizens. “This project will help solve some of the problems faced by communities. Surely, not all of them,” he stated.

Journalist Oleg Cosyh noted the money spent on this project returns to the country’s economy in the form of salaries, taxes paid by companies that perform the works and income taxes. “This has a multiplying effect. The economists understand that this 1.5 billion lei injected into the economy will bring many advantages that will be felt by the people,” stated the journalist.

At the start of this spring, the government announced that over 1,200 km of road sections in over 1,000 communities in Moldova will be repaired in the course of this year. For the purpose, the central public authorities intend to spend about 1.6 billion lei of the own funds and the donations made by such foreign partners as the EBRD, EIB and the World Bank.
