The Chinese New Year called the Spring Festival was marked at the National Children’s Library “Ion Creangă” on February 1. Traditionally, the event involved students of a number of education institutions, who danced and recited poems in the Chinese language, IPN reports.

China’s Ambassador in Chisinau Zhang Yinghong said annually before the Chinese New Year, the Embassy of China in Moldova and the National Children’s Library “Ion Creangă” stage the Spring Festival together with the lowliest children and teens of Moldova. China and the Republic of Moldova are very good partners and friends.

“Fruitful cooperation relations were established between our countries in different areas, including politics, economy and culture. In particular, the cultural exchanges played an important role in extending the friendship between the two nations. The youth is the future of the nation and the future of friendship between China and Moldova. That’s why I hope that by this event the children will be able to familiarize themselves with the Chinese culture, to understand our customs, Chinese traditions and to become witnesses and successors of the Chinese-Moldovan friendship. The Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the Republic of Moldova, as usual, will support the cultural exchanges and will offer more opportunities so that the two nations better know and understand each other,” stated the ambassador.

The Library’s vice director Lilia Tcaci said the Chinese New Year is marked worldwide and its celebration at the Library “Ion Creangă” already became a tradition, reaching its 13th edition. China is a miraculous country as it has such remarkable things as the Great Wall of China. It is a country of the future and one of the big economic powers that develop at a swift pace.

Attending the event, secretary general of the National Commission for UNESCO, composer Constantin Rusnac said he is glad to see nice children who are ready to know more about the beauty. Almost 25 years ago, he visited China and saw that this is a simply fantastic country. He could see a number of beautiful places, including the Great Wall of China, being profoundly impressed. “Cultural exchanges have been at a fantastic level for many years. Our groups leave for China and groups from China come here and are applauded by Moldovan spectators,” stated Constantin Rusnac.

The Chinese New Year starts on February 5 and ends of January 24, 2020. The customs and traditions related to the festival are diverse. The people give decorations, textiles, food and clothing to each other. By tradition, each family does the general cleaning in the house so as to drive away bad luck and have a better year. The dinner on the eve of the Chinese New Year includes pork, duck or chicken and a dessert and the evening ends with fireworks.
