The Government of Moldova and the Government of China Thursday signed an agreement on the provision by China of US$500,000 in financial assistance for flood cleanup. The money will be used to implement a drinking water treatment project in Nemteni, where there are built houses for flood victims, and to distribute drinking water to beneficiaries, Info-Prim Neo reports. Prime Minister Vlad Filat said the money represents the first tranche of the assistance of US$3 million promised by the Government of China to Moldova during a meeting held in September. The rest of the money will be disbursed in 2011. Chinese Ambassador to Moldova Fang LI said the Government of China pays special attention to the bilateral relations with Moldova. “The development of these relations is a consistent practice and orientation of the Chinese Government. China wants the money to be spent as soon as possible so as to improve the living conditions of the persons affected by this summer’s floods,” he said. The Premier stated the money will become available next week. Also next week, the national commission for liquidating the consequences of floods will convene to distribute the money.
