The ombudswoman for children’s rights Maia Bănărescu urges the authorities to make assiduous efforts to offer the children and mothers with whom these are hospitalized medical services and care, food and psychological assistance of the highest quality, IPN reports.

The ombudswoman said the children are the most vulnerable ones in times of the coronavirus pandemic. They are exposed to increased risks of infection and need medical services of the highest quality and increased attention on the part of the legal representatives.

Maia Bănărescu expresses her concern about the rising number of children diagnosed with COVID-19 and about the treatment and care conditions for children. She warns the parents and other legal representatives of children about their obligation and responsibility to take all the measures to create conditions of maximum safety for them so as to avoid infection among children, especially with COVID 19.

The official also warns the responsible institutions and asks the healthcare workers, social assistants, community police officers and tutelage authorities to supervise the families in difficulty and to provide the necessary assistance, including informational one, to them.

The children’s ombudswoman says that only by maximum responsibility shown by everyone and by combining efforts with the responsible public authorities, can the spread of the virus be minimized and can infection with the novel coronavirus be avoided.

According to the data presented by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection, 88 persons infected with COVID-19 received treatment at the Municipal Children’s Hospital of Contagious Diseases on April 9. Of them, 61 were children. Also, seven of the 13 patients with COVID-19 admitted to the Mother and Child Institute “Emilian Coțaga” were children.
