A reading hall for children aged between 1 and 10 was opened at the National Chidlren's Library “Ion Creanga”, the branch housed by “Licurici” Theater in Chisinau. The Children's Library project was implemented in concert with the Stockholm-based Swedish Institute and cost €21,000, Info-Prim Neo reports. “We appreciate this financial support. We aim to promote reading, attract the children to the library and organize different cultural-educational activities. The children can play, read, spend the time together with the parents and friends. It is a new view of how a library for children should look,” Eugenia Bejan, vice director of the Library “Ion Creanga”, told a news conference on March 11. Librarian Ingrid Kallstrom Nilsson from Stockholm stressed that all the children should feel that the library is for them. “Despite the progress made in ensuring the observance of chidlren's rights to education and reading, there is yet a lot of work to do. The children should be able to express their wishes and take part in decision making. The library must have a book arrangement system accessible to children and welcome them joyfully so that they want to come and read again,” she said. The National Chidlren's Library “Ion Creanga” started to cooperate with the Swedish Institute about 10 years ago.
