A group of children who suffer from diabetes will benefit from free treatment at the Child Rehabilitation Center “Sergeevka” in Ukraine, IPN reports.

During the 18-day rehabilitation period, the children’s state of health will be supervised by a pediatric endocrinologist and two pediatrics of the Mother and Child Institute of Chisinau.

The group consists of children aged between 2 and 15, who are under medical supervision with diabetes mellitus type 1, which enables the children to move. These were selected from all over the country according to medical criteria, depending on age and gravity of the disease.

The children and the parents who accompany them will be trained according to the program “School of patients with diabetes”. These will be informed about the control of diabetes and motivated to choose the correct food.

Minister of Health Ruxanda Glavan said that namely by such projects they can contribute to making the patients more responsible to the own health problems. “For us, it is very important that these children learn how to live with the disease of which they suffer. The objective that we pursue is to develop a network of national schools, including diabetes ones, which would promote health in the medical institution where treatment is received,” she stated.

In Moldova, morbidity through diabetes rose 1.5 times during the last ten years. In 2014, there were over 83,500 people with diabetes, almost 400 of whom were children.
