The children whose immune system is weak are at risk of developing severe forms of COVID-19 and should therefore get vaccinated, pediatrician Ninel Revenco, coordinator of the national immunization program, told a news conference.

A number of children with COVID-19 have been admitted to the intensive care and reanimatology wards of the Mother and Child Institute. These are patients with comorbidies.

Ninel Revenco said the newborns can also develop severe forms of disease. If they contract the infection, they should be monitored attentively and should be hospitalized, if necessary.

The parents are advised to call an ambulance if the child’s breathing is noisy, this is sleepy and complains about chest or abdominal pain.

Children aged 12 and above can be immunized against COVID-19. It is considered the possibility of vaccinating also younger children, from the age of five.
