Children set 58 fires during summer holidays

A man aged 53 set his house on fire and then committed suicide. The tragedy occurred on 8 August, at 10:15 in Besghios village, Ceadar Lunga. The house burnt completely when the firemen arrived. According to the main specialist of the Firemen and Rescuers Section of the Exceptional Situations Department, Mihai Rotari, of those 55 fires registered over the past week, 3 were set on purpose. 12 fires were due to short-circuits and 6 – children playing with fire. Drunken smoking in bed killed two men, aged 40 and 45. In other fires 6 additional constructions and 10 houses were damaged. In June-July and the first week of August the number of fires set by children has increased considerably. Thus, children are guilty of setting 58 fires, including 6 in the first week of August. According to preliminary data of the Firemen and Rescuers Service, 210 fires took place in RM in July, resulting in 6 casualties and material damages estimated at 2.1 million lei.
