Children prepare own report on observance of children's rights in Moldova

The 25 children of the working group for monitoring children's rights presented their own report on how the Convention on the Rights of the Child is observed in Moldova to members of the parliamentary commission for social protection, health and family. It was for the first time that a parliamentary commission discussed a report prepared by children, Info-Prim Neo reports. Gabriela Croitoru, a student from Hancesti who forms part of the working group for monitoring children's rights, said the report “The Truth Told by Children” is intended for parents, teachers and decision makers. “The grownups must know what the children think about the social services and take into account chidlren's opinions when formulating laws,” said another member of the group, Robert Cinciuc from Balti. Liliana Palihovich, chairwoman of the parliamentary commission for social protection, health and family, said a Consultative Council will be created under the commission to monitor in continuation how chidlren's rights are respected. “The voice of the children and the truth told by them are important for the persons holding executive poisons,” she said. Deputy Minister of Labor, Social Protection and Family Vadim Pistrinciuc said he will take care that the report is taken account of when implementing the Ministry's policies. The children have the tight and must be involved in decision making at regional and local levels, he said. The working group for monitoring children's rights in Moldova was set up by the Child Rights Information and Documentation Center in July 2008. It includes children aged between 12 and 16 from 14 regions of the country.
