Hundreds of children, parents and grandparents came together in the central park of Chisinau to celebrate the International Day for Protection of Children. The children said they would like to have such a holiday every day. The grownups also consider that such events should take place more often than once a year.

Valentina Cujba, deputy head of the General Division of Education, Youth and Sport, has told IPN that all the children visiting the central park are offered chocolate, ice-cream and books. There are staged exhibitions of books, face painting workshops, puppet shows, asphalt drawing contests and different games. Similar activities take place in other districts of Chisinau too.

Nadejda Domentean said she went out together with her grandchildren to have fun. She noted the atmosphere in the park is very nice and the children take part in different events and are happy.

Another grandmother Zinaida Bata said the recreational activities are very enjoyable. She stated she would like such events to take place at least every week.

Two girls-cousins, together with the mother of one of them, preferred to sit down on a bench in the shade and to listen to the music and watch the children dancing on the stage.

On the occasion of the International Children’s Day, Prime Minister Chiril Gaburici transmitted a congratulatory message, saying June 1 is the holyday not only of children, but also of those who are near them and who help them grow up citizens of great value. “It is a special occasion for living again the unique emotions of childhood, which is the nicest period in the life of every person,” he stated.

By ratifying the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, Moldova pledged to protect the children from any kind of discrimination, to ensure their social security and optimal conditions for harmonious development.
