“The children nowadays are more active, more vigorous, more pretentious and more willing to know and this last quality I like most of all,” writer Spiridon Vangheli has told Info-Prim Neo. Spiridon Vangheli said that even if we are in the era of the Internet, the children continue to read books and the writers are obliged to write good books for them. “The children read if the books are interesting. It is our duty to make the books now more interesting than ever. A book should focus on many aspects of life and underline the most important things. The children now are not as patient as earlier. They want to grow up quicker and we must keep pace with them,” said the writer. He also said that he still receives letters from the little readers and goes to meet them. “Sometimes, when I go to schools in the city, I fear the children will not like my rural characters Guguta, Ciubotel and others, but I see that the urban children also want to be like my characters – free and carefree. When I meet the children, I return to my childhood and become a kid again,” stated the writer. Spiridon Vangheli said it is very hard to educate and ennoble society. “The writers, parents and teachers must work hard and take the children away from computers as often as possible,” he stressed. The writer said he earlier traveled through the country more often. “I visited the northern villages with large houses in which the people invested large sums of money. I think that if this money was invested in children, it would be great. Enormous effort is needed in this respect. It is not easy for a nation to raise the children as the time wants,” he said. Spiridon Vangheli wrote many books for children, including “In the Butterflies’ Land”, “Guguta’s Adventures”, and “Ciubotel’s Star”. He was awarded the State Prize of Moldova and the Andersen Diploma of Honor.
