The children left behind by parents working abroad will enjoy increased attention from teachers, family doctors and counseling professionals, stated Tatiana Nagnibeda-Tverdohleb, head of the municipal education division, at the City Hall's ordinary meeting on Monday, Info-Prim Neo reports.
In Chisinau, 9,314 such children have been registered with the authorities. As their individual files are drawn, it has been discovered that 1,927 children need material assistance, 776 children need medical assistance, and the remaining children need at least counseling.
Tatiana Nagnibeda Tverdohleb said that during the summer vacation these children will be assisted if need be by the specialists of the Counseling Center Armonie and by the volunteers of the NGO Neovita. From September 1, each school in the municipality will have one or two psychologists, depending on the size of the school.
Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca said greater involvement was needed to assist children left behind and instructed relevant officials to develop clear mechanisms of offering support to these children.
Each class in a city school has one to four children whose parents are working abroad. In the suburbs the proportion is even greater.
