Educational institutions in Edinet were reported to depart from the legal requirements for feeding first to fourth graders, according to Nordpress Agency, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. Vera Popovici, doctor at the Edinet Preventive Medicine Centre says that the present ration includes mainly pasta and a poor variety of cereals. Fresh fruits and vegetables are provided in a reduced amount. Breakfast and lunch are poor in calories and this fact causes energy deficiency among schoolchildren. Moreover, the children’s meals lack dairy products. According to the contract signed on January 17 between the Edinet Town Hall and Lactis JSC, schools were supposed to be provided with dairy products until December 31. The contract was cancelled because the supplier raised its prices and the Town Hall could not afford the new terms. Thus, the schools are lacking milk and dairy products as the Town Hall is looking for another supplier, Nordepress reports. Specialists of the Edinet Preventive Medicine Centre reported a 4.4% increase in the number of blood diseases in the last two years. Diseases of the digestive system rose by 2.4%.
