Children and youth with disabilities learn life skills at Ungheni Day-care Center

The “Casa pentru toti” (“Home for all”) Day-care Center in Ungheni has 77 beneficiaries. This institution helps children and youth with movement and mental impairments to develop useful life skills and learn a job as well. Additionally, they are offered medical help, reports Info-Prim Neo. Psychologist Maria Calchei, the Center's founder, says that a special communication technique is used with the beneficiaries, which was proven to be a success. There is a toy room, and each child has his own story for a certain set of toys. This helps them externalize. “We have all types of services. Kinetic therapy – in order to stop complete muscular atrophy. Early intervention service – we currently have a two-month-old beneficiary. We also have a speech therapist and psychological counseling here”, said Maria Calchei. The beneficiaries of the “Casa pentru toti” day-care center are fed twice a day. There is also a living room where the youth learn to cook, under the supervision of a cook. There is also a wood workshop for those who want to make wood toys. The City Hall buys these toys for the town's 6 kindergartens. Children and youth also make different decorations from beads for sale and the proceeds are used to buy beads for new works. The day-care center also has a computer lab, where beneficiaries can relax or look for some information they need. The Center's capacity is of 70 places, but the number of beneficiaries is higher. The center's employees also offer home assistance to children who cannot commute. The “Casa pentru toti” day-care Center was created with the support of the European Union. The EU Delegation to Moldova has recently organized a study visit for the journalists to the institution.
