A child aged almost three from Nisporeni district lost the battle with the novel coronavirus. He was admitted to the Mother and Child Institute in a very serious state with comorbidies. The child was one of the 45 victims who succumbed to COVID-19 on March 31, IPN reports, quoting the Ministry of Health.
The child suffered from bilateral pneumonia, obstructive bronchitis, secondary pyelonephritis and chronic renal failure and had multiple growth disorders.
This is the youngest patient who lost the battle with the virus. The first death due to COVID-19 among children was reported last September. The victim was a girl aged 15 from the municipality of Chisinau.
Among the 45 victims reported on March 31 were a 60-year-old urologist of the Clinical Hospital of the Ministry of Health and a 56-year-old nurse who worked at the Râșcani Territorial Medical Association of Chisinau. As many as 107 health workers died because of the virus in Moldova so far.
The death toll from COVID-19 now stands at 4,958. The infections total 230,000.
Of the 4,167 patients with COVID-19 who are now in the national hospitals, 331 are in a very serious state and 71 of them were put on a ventilator.
