Even the most harmless domestic animals can seriously hurt a kid left unsupervised. It happened so in the case of a four-year-old girl from Chisinau municipality who underwent an emergency operation after she was bitten by a rabbit and the doctors are making effort to save her phalange.
Contacted by IPN, Veaceslav Plamadeala, head of the Emergency Admissions Section of the Municipal Children’s Hospital “Valentin Ignatenco”, said the girl was admitted to the intensive care section and was operated. She will probably undergo one more surgery to have her finger saved. The girl played near the cage with rabbits and wanted to stroke an animal, but this bit her seriously.
Doctors warn against leaving the children unsupervised nears animals in the yard, including cats, dogs, cows or even birds. Increased attention should be devoted to kids in summer, when these go to the grandparents, because the children under five are very curious and do not realize the dangers involved.
More information about how to protect the child is available on www.parinti.md and can be also found out by following the information campaigns centering on the prevention of accidents involving children carried out within the REPEMOL (Regionalization of Pediatric Emergency and Intensive Care Service in Moldova) Project that is financed by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation and implemented by the Foundation of the Center for Health Policies and Services.
