A girl aged six died on the way to the hospital after she was struck by a car while sledging. It happened on the R-1 Chisinau – Ungheni road near Sipoteni village of Călărași district in the evening of January 8, at about 8:35pm.
Asked by IPN to provide details, press officer of the Genera Police Inspectorate Mariana Beţivu said the girl was sledding together with a boy aged 18. The two sledged out onto the main road and were hit by a car driven by a 29-year-old man from Ungheni municipality.
The girl died on the way to the hospital. The boy who accompanied her is in a serious state.
The breathalyzer showed the driver wasn’t in inebriated. He also travelled at the legal speed. He is investigated outside remand.
Vice director of the Călărași District Hospital Ion Veveriță has told IPN that the young man is in a serious, but stable state. He suffered polytrauma associated with traumatic brain injury, a fracture of the right femur, a fracture of the right forearm, rib and clavicle fractures.
