The Republic of Moldova will continue to receive assistance in reforming the justice system, in advancing in the fight against corruption and deoligarchization, European Chief Prosecutor Laura Codruta Kovesi assured Prime Minister Dorin Recean in a meeting. The interlocutors discussed the developments in the fight against corruption and ways to amplify the joint efforts in this regard, IPN reports.

“Justice is the first area that needs to be cleared of corruption so as to build a truly impartial, independent and predictable system, and make sure that the citizens trust the democratic institutions of the state,” said the head of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office Laura Codruta Kovesi.

The Prime Minister noted that the fight against corruption remains one of the priorities of the Republic of Moldova and expressed interest in strengthening cooperation between all the anticorruption authorities in the Republic of Moldova and the European Public Prosecutor’s Office. “We would appreciate the exchange of good practices in terms of investigation and prosecution of financial crimes and corruption, as well as the organization of training courses for prosecutors in the Republic of Moldova,” said Dorin Recean.

Laura Codruta Kovesi’s last visit to the Republic of Moldova took place in the summer of 2022, when a Cooperation Agreement was signed between the Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Moldova and the European Public Prosecutor’s Office.
