Chief architect arrested for passive corruption

A chief architect from northern Moldova was arrested by officers of the National Anticorruption Center and anticorruption prosecutors on passive corruption charges. The man is suspected of asking and receiving €1,200 for making and signing the documents needed for building a house, including the required design documents, IPN reports.

According to the National Anticorruption Center, it happened in August-September 2013. Afterward, saying that more time is needed for preparing the documents, the chief architect asked for another €200 for hastening the signing and issuing of these documents. The man was caught red-handed, after he received the money passed on under the control of anticorruption officers. He was arrested for 72 hours initially.

The suspect faces up to ten years in jail and a fine of 300,000 to 400,000 lei for passive corruption.
