Ex-Prime Minister Ion Chicu said that he was invited by Igor Dodon to run in the July 11 elections on the PSRM’s list, but he rejected the proposal because he does not share the views of the Socialists. Even if he was promoted by Dodon to the post of Premier, Chicu says any cooperation with the leader of the PSRM stopped when he resigned as Premier, IPN reports.

Ion Chicu noted he chose to create a political party from zero because he does not want to be associated with the image of an outdated party.

“It was the easiest for me to agree to be among the top three on the list of a political party, to enter Parliament and not to bother. I could have later taken my mates with me and told those from the PSRM that we must part company, as it will definitely happen to one of the blocs at the first sitting of Parliament, Ion Chicu stated in the talk show “Natalia Morari’s Politics” on TV8 channel.

Chicu said the country’s geopolitical course is the main reason for divergences between his party and the party led by Igor Dodon.

“We are a center-right party and plead for the country’s integration into the EU, while Dodon and his mates have other opinions on the issue. We aim to obtain not comfortable seats of MP, but the parliamentary rostrum so that we could transmit our messages to the citizens,” stated Ion Chicu.

Ex-Premier Ion Chicu became president of the Party of Development and Unity of Moldova in April. The party was registered as an election contender and will be under No. 13 on the ballot for the July 11 snap parliamentary elections.
