“Chernobylists” got their money from Chisinau Mayoralty

75 participants of the Chernobyl consequences liquidation team and widows of the catastrophe’s victims received from the Mayoralty financial accommodations, alimentary products and commemorative medals. The mayoralty offered to the first degree infirms one thousand lei, to the second degree – 800 lei. The third degree invalids and their widows received 500 lei each. According to the order of the Defence Ministry, the participants were given commemorative medals, five of them post-mortem. Vasile Ursu, the mayor of the city, said the local authorities support as possible these persons, inclusively ensuring them with living spaces. In 2004 for this category of persons was offered a block with 80 apartments and the construction of the second bloc is to be started. Also, Mayoralty gave 35 plots for individual constructions and the Municipal Council gives preferential credit guarantees for the persons that participated at the liquidation of the Chernobyl catastrophe consequences. When the incident happened, Zaharia Aromanesii was 18 years and was a soldier. Together with other soldiers he was obliged to guard the nuclear power plant together with his family. They don’t have a home so they rent an apartment. He and his child are both infirm. Zaharia intends to find a lawyer and to sue the state because it doesn’t respect its obligations towards him as a participant at the liquidation of the Chernobyl consequences. But he has no money for paying the lawyer because he spends everything for his treatment. Some participants of the Chernobyl consequence liquidation were very conscious when going there and they knew about the possible risks. This is the case of Ion Rusu that was a Physics and Mathematics teacher 20 years ago. After several years from coming back from Chernobyl he had to abandon his work because he was spending more time on visiting doctors then teaching. According to Ion Rusu the state is making some efforts to help these persons but they are insufficient. In the Chisinau Municipality live nearly 1000 perosons that participated at the liquidation of Chernobyl consequences. On April 26 have turned twenty years from the Chernobyl catastrophe.
