Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca demonstrated how copying in Baccalaureate exams can be prevented. In the June 17 meeting of Chisinau City Hall officials, the mayor ordered connecting a device that jammed Internet connection and the mobile telephone signal in the hall, IPN reports.

“This device costs €200 and has an effect on an area of 40 meters. There are even more powerful devices. If they had used such devices at the Baccalaureate centers this year, they would have incurred costs of about 320,000 lei. Given the price of video cameras, the difference is significant,” stated Dorin Chirtoaca.

The mayor added that the device was imported officially into Moldova and he borrowed it from a friend. He suggested the General Division of Education, Youth and Sport to prepare a report on the examination session after the Baccalaureate exams and to formulate recommendations for the Education Ministry in it.

“We hope that we will be heard at least in 2014,” said the mayor.

More than 500 papers were annulled this year after students were caught cheating. These candidates will be able to take the exam again next year.
