Fourteen business entities – investors with foreign capital operating in northern Moldova - mounted in Balti a charity fair with presents, traditional dishes and other surprises for the community of vulnerable migrants. The visitors of the fair also enjoyed a series of cultural, sports and recreational activities, including activities for mental health and a travelling photo exhibition. The event was staged by the North Regional Division of the General Inspectorate for Migration (GIM) of the Ministry of the Interior with the participation of the International Organization for Migration in Moldova (IOM Moldova), as part of the campaign dedicated to the International Migrants Day, IPN reports.
GIM head Mihail Vodă said the foreigners who established in Moldova, the nice life stories they create together with citizens of the Republic of Moldova are the most relevant proofs of the fact that migration can be used as a source for developing the community.
IOM Moldova Chief of Mission Lars Johan Lönnback said the socioeconomic development of a country is also guided by solidarity within local communities. “The initiative of the General Inspectorate for Migration is an excellent example of the mutual support between Moldovans, migrants and refugees. IOM is honored to take part in this initiative as part of the celebration of the International Migrants Day. We see how the Moldovans help the migrants and the refugees. In the photo exhibition mounted here by IOM, you can also see faces of migrants and refugees who help Moldovans and other migrants and refugees. The social and economic development of local communities passes through a united and integrated community, while IOM will continue to work together with the GIM, the Moldovan authorities and local communities so as to encourage solidarity and mutual support between migrants, refugees and Moldovans all over the country for a safe and prosperous present and future of the country,” he stated.
Starting with 2000, the world community on December 18 has celebrated the International Migrants Day instituted by the UN. The Republic of Moldova ratified the Charter of the International Organization for Migration in 2003.
