Adrian Dupu, who heads the branch in Moldova of the National Liberal Party of Romania, said changes to the better will start in Romania and also in Moldova after the European Parliament elections. According to him, what happens in Romania has an impact on the developments in Moldova. The issue was developed in the talk show “Emphasis on today” on TVR Moldova channel, IPN reports.

“Yesterday’s result is a serious signal that the people here want a big change, that the people here put their hope in the National Liberal Party first of all, that they hope the politicians in Bucharest will pay greater attention to what is going on here and will act with celerity whenever a departure is witnessed,” stated Adrian Dupu.

National Unity Party president Anatol Șalaru said Moldova’s relationship with the European Parliament depends on what the government in Chisinau does. “The EU’s attitude to Russia’s actions in Moldova hasn’t always been the same. Some of the countries support the regime in Tiraspol, made common front with Russia over Moldova’s domestic policy. That’s why we hope the attitude in the EU will also change,” stated Anatol Șalaru.

According to him, the government of Moldova cannot do without the financial and political support of the EU. That’s why things depend on the parliamentary majority that will be formed in Moldova as the EU could further block the existing cooperation relations with Moldova.

Viorel Cibotaru, director of the European Institute of Political Studies, noted Moldova is fully integrated into the processes that take place in the EU, but remains hostage to Russia’s policy. “We must solve the problem of withdrawal of Russian troops. If this is not done, neither we, nor Ukraine or Georgia could benefit from the formal, institutionalized part of forming part of the Euro-Atlantic area,” he stated.

According to the partial results presented by the Central Election Bureau of Romania, the PNL got 26.35% (10 seats), PSD – 23.16% (9 seats) and USR-PLUS – 21.24% (7 seats). The Pro Romania Party, which includes former Moldovan prime minister Iurie Leanca no.4 on its list, got 6.77% and only 2 seats. UDMR and PMP also secured 2 seats each with 6.19% and 5.64% respectively. ALDE won only 4.13% of the ballot.
