Children who turn seven until December 31 could be enrolled at school by the first round in the municipality of Chisinau. An amendment to this effect will be made to the admission methodology at the request of acting mayor of Chisinau Ruslan Codreanu. In the April 22 meeting of officials of Chisinau services and divisions, Codreanu argued over 1,000 children born after September 1 have to annually wait for the second round to be admitted to school depending on the available places.
Contacted by IPN for details, the head of the General Education, Youth and Sport Division Rodica Guțu said a preliminary discussion was held with the administration of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research and an approach was made in this regard. “We obtained a positive verbal agreement and are to receive the written confirmation from the Ministry,” stated the official.
Currently, children who turned seven by September 1 are enrolled at school in the first grade in the school district that corresponds to their domicile at the first stage, until June 13. At the second stage, the parents can choose institutions from another district, but the children are admitted only if there are available places. Aptitude tests are taken only by children who are to be enrolled at specialized institutions during May 21-25.
