The chance for the visa regime with the EU to be liberalized for Moldova next year is very great, considers the Ambassador of Germany to Moldova Matthias Meyer. In an interview for Publika TV, the diplomat said the Germans will become involved with determination so that the Moldovans are able to travel visa-free in the EU, IPN reports.
As to Moldova’s stake at the Vilnius Eastern Partnership Summit of November 28 – 29 – the initialing of the Association Agreement with the EU – the ambassador said that the summit will represent the beginning of a process that will bring the sides closer at all the levels, not only in the trade sector, but in many other sectors. ”The Government of Moldova set this objective several years ago and we will support it firmly as we consider that this is an importance chance for modernizing your society,” stated Matthias Meyer.
The German diplomacy said Moldovans’ expectations as regards the immediate change of the realties after the initialing of the Association Agreement, which envisions the creation of the Free Trade Area, should not be too great. “The association and free trade are at the beginning of processes that should produce a change of the conditions in society on a long and medium-term. You will be able to reap the harvest, but you should realize that the progress depends mostly on you. We, the Germans, the Europeans are on your side and we want to help you both financially and personally,” assured the German ambassador.
He added that the Germans also were in a very difficult situation after World War II. The German economy was destroyed, but the Germans succeeded to build the economy owing to the assistance of their friends and the own contribution. “I think it was an attitude that you should also have here, in Moldova. The modernization is a global process at the end of which you will obtain good things. All the Moldovans must contribute to the success of this process,” stated Matthias Meyer.
