The Central Election Commission (CEC) has excluded the Political Party “Chance” from the list of parties that can participate in the presidential election and the referendum of October 20. It also cancelled the registration of the party as a participant in the referendum made a week ago. The decision comes in the context of the court decision to limit the party’s activity, which was also upheld by the appeals court, IPN reports.

The party’s activity was limited by the court for a period of three months. CEC deputy chairman Pavel Postica said the political parties, during the limitation of activity, are banned from founding media outlets, organizing meetings, rallies, demonstrations, picketing and other public events. “Therefore, the CEC’s decision of July 26 on the list of political parties that have the right to participate in the presidential election and the national constitutional referendum of October 20 is to be adjusted as a result of the Balti Court’s decision that was upheld by the appeals court,” said Pavel Postica.

Attending the meeting, the leader of “Chance” Party Alexei Lungu said the objections to the party, which led to the limitation of activity, are unfounded because all the financial reports were submitted by the deadlines. He also invoked the legal provisions according to which the party’s activity cannot be limited during the election campaign. According to Alexei Lungu, the CEC’s actions are illegal and represent an abuse.

In reply, the CEC members said that the election campaign starts on September 20.

Seven members voted in favor of the decision, and two members abstained.
