The Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) Moldova-China from 1 to 5 May will stage an economic mission to the Canton Import & Export Fair that will take place in Guangzhou, in the People’s Republic of China. This exhibition is considered the largest event of the kind in the world and involves over 25,000 commercial organizations that display their products and services on an area of approximately 1.2 million square meters. Representatives of the Moldovan-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry said the Moldovan companies’ participation in this event in China is a good occasion for identifying potential business partners, for presenting the own brand and learning about the most recent technological accomplishments of Chinese firms.

In a news conference hosted by IPN, prescient of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Moldova-China Boris Foca said that for over 30 years, China has been one of the strategic development partners of the Republic of Moldova. Trade with China started in 1991 with a figure of about US$70,000. “After 2020, when we had imports totaling about US$570, over a year, in 2021, we saw a growth of almost 30% to US$780 million. The figure is surely on the rise and we are rapidly drawing closer to the figure of €1 billion commercial exchanges,” stated Boris Foca.

The imports from China are large, but the exports to this country are rather modest, of about €30 million. The export figures have declined owing to a number of factors, such as the considerably rise in shipment costs in 2020-2021 and the non-provision of visas to foreigners by China due to COVID-19 up to this January.

Boris Foca noted that the CCI Moldova-China, in partnership with the CCI Romania-China and the CCI of the Republic of Moldova, organizes the mission to Canton Import & Export Fair. “For the first time this fair took place in 1957. It is held for two times a year, in spring and in autumn. The Canton Fair session is divided into three phases as there are a lot of companies. Canton Import & Export Fair is open only to those interested in purchasing something from China and also to companies that are looking for a partner to sell  their merchandise in the People’s Republic of China,” stated Boris Foca. The interested companies and private individuals are invited to take part. The Chamber of Commerce and Industry Moldova-China will provide assistance, guidance, interpretation and also B2B meetings.

Nikita Alexeico, executive secretary of the Chamber of Commerce, said the CCI Moldova-China offers a unique chance, primarily in the post-pandemic period, to visit this exhibition that is considered the biggest exhibition in the world and that involves a large number of Chinese companies.
