The women eligible for cervical screening will be identified and notified automatically of the necessity of having a smear test and of the test results and treatment through the agency of the new Automated Information System “Cervical Screening Register”. The regulations for running this were approved by the Cabinet, IPN reports.
The register will facilitate the monitoring process and the exchange of data between the doctors involved in the provision of cervical screening services needed for the diagnosis, treatment and supervision of patients.
The Automated Information System “Cervical Screening Register” is implemented as part of the Project “Prevention of Cervical Cancer in the Republic of Moldova” that is financed by UNFPA and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation.
About 600-700 women in Moldova are annually diagnosed with precancerous states of the cervix, while 300–350 are diagnosed with cervical cancer.
