Oleg Cernei, chairman of the Public Amenities Division of the Chisinau Municipal Council, suggested joining the 23 housing stock managing companies into ten such companies, Info-Prim Neo reports. In a news conference on January 25, the municipal councilor said 98% of the housing in Chisinau had been privatized, but the those companies manage 70% of the stock. “The housing stock should be managed by dwellers associations. The 23 housing stock managing companies employ about 1,500 persons. 57% of the money collected yearly for maintaining the apartment buildings - about 60 million lei – is used to pay salaries, while 16% to pay contributions into the social and health insurance funds. Only about 20% of this money goes to maintain the buildings,” Cernei said.
