If simultaneous rallies are to be held, priority will be given to the prior notices submitted by the central public authorities. A decision to this effect was taken by the Commission for Exceptional Situations and this is valid until June 2 inclusive, IPN reports.

The decision provides that the State Chancellery will be notified of the holding of rallies in the municipality of Chisinau and also in the districts of Orhei, Anenii Noi, and Criuleni through declaratii.prealabile@gov.md. The authorities argue the decision was taken in a move to maintain public order during the European Political Community Summit of June 1.

The Government notified the Chisinau City Hall of its intention to reserve the central square of Chisinau for the National Assembly “European Moldova” announced by President Maia Sandu for May 21. But representatives of the Movement for People, which consists of a number of political parties, said that they submitted a prior notice to hold an event in the central square on May 21 earlier. Also, similar notices were filed by the Party of Socialists and other organizations.

Under the law, if a number of applicants submit prior notices to stage rallies in the same place and at the same hour, the responsible body of the local public administration convenes a meeting with all the applicants to identify a suitable solution for holding all the planned events simultaneously.
